(Quad Cities, IA) -- A Winter Storm Warning is in effect in Eastern Iowa today beginning at 9 a.m.
The National Weather Service says today's winter storm could bring two to five inches of snow to the Quad Cities beginning around noon.
Cedar Rapids is expected to get between three and five inches beginning around 10 a.m.
The highest snowfall amounts will fall along and north of Interstate-80.
The snowfall could make this evening's commute a bit messy with high winds and whiteout conditions possible.
"It may not be long lasting in some areas, and some other areas could be updated to a Blizzard Warning if things go just right," says Meteorologist Andy Ervin.
Wind gusts of 30 to 45 miles per hour are possible.
Ervin says a flash freeze from possible early morning rain is no longer a threat.
Wind chills through the weekend could fall to (-20), even (-30) degrees with a northwest wind peaking Sunday morning.
