Nearly 50-dogs picked up from Iowa County property during winter storm

(Des Moines, IA) -- Animal Rescue League of Iowa staffers had quite a time Thursday during the winter storm. Staffers were called to pick up 50-dogs from a property in Marengo, in Iowa County. The ARL says after braving the show, wind, and bitter cold for hours, staffers brought the dozens of dogs to the shelter north of Des Moines. The A-R-L says what should have been a 90-minute trip, took more than four hours.

The ARL says dozens of dogs were found in pens at the property, their shelter included two run-down buildings and a camper, littered with junk and feces. Staffers say the dogs are very fearful and under-socialized. Veterinary staff says some of the dogs had rotten teeth, matted fur, and flees. Nearly all will need spay/neuter surgeries.
