City of Des Moines to Keep Mask Mandate in Place

(Des Moines, IA) -- The city of Des Moines is keeping it's mask mandate in place, despite Governor Kim Reynolds lifting mask requirements and other COVID-19 restrictions statewide this weekend.

A statement from the city Saturday says they're keeping the mandate in an attempt to protect people against the virus.

"With an alarmingly more transmissible version of the virus now detected in Iowa, it is more important than ever that our residents and visitors follow the advice of medical experts, keep social distance and whenever out in public, wear a mask," says Mayor of Des Moines Frank Cownie in the statement.

Governor Reynolds' updated proclamation will go into effect Sunday morning.
