A Politician is trying to make legal marijuana a thing in Iowa? In favor?

An Iowa State Senator is pushing to make recreational marijuana legal in Iowa.

State Senator Joe Bolkcom - a Democrat from Iowa City - is once again leading this effort just as he did for medical marijuana.

The people who warned that medical marijuana would open the doors to legalization in Iowa continue to be concerned about the same thing - kids.

Bolkcom wants legal pot regulated in the same way as booze is.

"It's time to recognize that marijuana prohibition has really been a failure, not only in Iowa but across the country. It's just wrecked too many people's lives in the form of a criminal record that really sets their lives and their family's lives in a downward cycle of poverty," he said.

Meanwhile State Senator Brad Zaun - a Republican from Urbandale and Chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee is firmly against the push. "I am not interested in making recreational marijuana legal in the state of Iowa. Mostly because of the negative impact it would have on our youth," he said.

What do you think? Should marijuana be legal in Iowa?
