Man Dead From Crash After Leading Linn County Deputies on High Speed Chase

BENTON County, Iowa - A man's dead after leading Linn County deputies on a high speed overnight chase through two counties, reaching 115 miles an hour.

The man drove off the roadway and struck a culvert near the town of Belle Plaine in Benton County.

He was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene, while a passenger was flown to a hospital in serious condition.

The chase started after the suspect ran a stop sign in the town of Atkins. The chase covered more than 30 miles and lasted about 20 minutes.

The names of the occupants of the vehicle, silver Dodge Grand Caravan, have not been released.
