Saylor Township Man Charged with Animal Neglect

(Des Moines, Iowa) -- A Saylor Township man is being charged with animal neglect after a starving dog was rescued from his home.

Police say 20 year-old Dwight McNeal was arrested Thursday after the Animal Rescue League of Iowa rescued "Jax," a young male dog from his property. The ARL says Jax weighed 27 pounds, about half of what a dog his size should weigh, and was covered in worms and fleas. Since being cared for by the ARL, Jax has already gained four pounds.

The ARL says, if convicted, McNeal could face up to two years in jail and up to $6,000 in fines.
