IOWA - Iowa is approaching a milestone for COVID-19 vaccinations as the state could surpass half a million fully vaccinated people early this week.
The state is also on pace to have half its residents with at least one dose before long.
Moderna and Pfizer account for most of the shots given out in Iowa, with a small percentage coming from the single dose Johnson and Johnson vaccine.
The largest number of vaccines have been given to people in Polk County (roughly 174,000) followed by Linn (93,000) Johnson (74,000) and Scott (60,000) counties.
The state says there continues to be a very limited supply of vaccines in Iowa, although delivery from the federal government is expected to ramp up significantly before April 1st.
President Biden has instructed all states to make vaccines available to all adults by May 1st.Governor Kim Reynolds has said Iowa will open vaccines to all people 16 and over on April 5th if projected numbers hold.
As of early Monday morning, 495,618 people had been fully vaccinated in Iowa, while 1,231,634 had received at least one dose.
656,610 Moderna doses have been administered, 587,905 from Pfizer and 34,139 from Johnson and Johnson.
