Des Moines river flashboards removed VIDEO

(Des Moines, IA) -- Des Moines city crews have removed the flashboards on the Center Street dam. The panels are removed once a year, the end result is a reduction in the Des Moines River water flow and make water conditions safer for recreation. There are 43-corrigated steel panels, each one is 9 x 2 feet, and weighs more than 170-pounds.

Parks and Rec Superintendent John Hagener says once the water trails project begins, they will no longer need the panels and pins.
