Iowa Experiencing Increase in COVID-19 Cases

IOWA - Iowa is experiencing a rise in COVID-19 cases after rapidly falling from a peak late last year.

The state is reporting a slightly higher positivity rate (4.5 percent 14-day average, 5.0 percent 7-day average) than in recent weeks and the New York Times COVID-19 tracker shows a 22 percent increase in cases in Iowa over the past 14 days.

Hospitalizations are also trending up in the state, although deaths continue on a downward trend.

As of Monday morning, there were virus outbreaks at two long term care centers after dropping to zero in the recent past.

About 40 percent of the COVID-19 deaths in Iowa are from long term care centers.

Virus cases nationally are also on the rise, having gone up 15 percent over the last 14 days. Iowa ranks 22 among the states for its rate of new cases.
