Iowa State Patrol stops another excessive speeder

(Undated) -- The Iowa State Patrol is sharing yet another photo of a driver, clocked driving well over the posted speed. The I-S-P says the early morning driver was stopped going 101 miles per hour in a 70 mph zone, on I-35 in southern Iowa.

The I-S-P says the driver had alcohol and marijuana in their system.

The State Patrol says there has been an ongoing trend of excessive speeding since the pandemic shutdowns a year ago.

(Undated) -- A multi-state effort's underway to address a pandemic trend of excessive speeding. The Iowa State Patrol says speeding citations have risen by more than 100-percent throughout the pandemic. ISP Sergeant Alex Dinkla says the trend started during the COVID-19 lockdowns, and have continued. He says in many instances, drivers have been stopped going over 100-miles per hour.

Arkansas and Missouri have both reported an 80-percent increase in speeding citations. Nebraska and Kansas speeding citations are also up about 70-percent during the past year.

The five states are launching an effort to crack down on the excessive speeding.

Iowa's also announcing a goal this year of fewer than 300-fatal crashes, something that hasn't happened since 1925.
