(Iowa City, Iowa) -- Almost five percent of Iowa City public school students are in quarantine due to possible COVID-19 exposures and positive tests, according to the district's COVID tracker.
The district announced last night that 40 students tested positive, and another 105 are presumed positive. The district says ten classrooms are closed temporarily. It's not yet known how the students became infected, or what strains of the virus the students have.
The U.K. variant is currently spreading across the United States and is shown to be more likely to infect children. The U.K. variant is now the dominant COVID strain in the country.
