Investigators: Cedar Rapids office building fire unintentional

(Cedar Rapids, IA) -- Cedar Rapids Fire investigators say a large fire at an office building this week was unintentional, and likely caused by an electrical malfunction. Fire broke out after 6 p.m. April 7th at 3851 River Ridge Drive NE.

Fire investigators say the fire originated from above the drop-down ceiling on the second floor of the building. The building’s utilities were located in this space, including electrical wiring, fiber optics, and components of the heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning system. 

No one was injured in the fire. The building has sustained significant damage throughout.
