INDEPENDENCE, Iowa -- The body of an Iowa State Patrol sergeant killed in the line of duty is back in his Eastern Iowa hometown.

A procession of law enforcement and other first-response vehicles escorted Jim Smith's body from the State Medical Examiner's office in Ankeny to Independence on Sunday.

Smith was shot to death during a standoff in Grundy Center Friday night.
