Iowa Department of Public Health Advises Pause in J&J Vaccine Use

(Des Moines, Iowa) -- The Iowa Department of Public Health is advising vaccine providers statewide to suspend use of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine until further notice.

The Centers for Disease Control and the Food and Drug Administration announced Tuesday morning that they're reviewing six reported cases of severe blood clots that developed in people who recently received the Johnson & Johnson vaccine. The CDC and FDA say it appears these cases are extremely rare, but they are conducting a further review of the cases and their significance.

Over 78,500 Iowans have received the Johnson & Johnson vaccine.
