(Cedar Rapids, IA) -- A man's facing charges after police say he was approaching teens in Cedar Rapids, offering students money to get into his vehicle, and then led police on a chase. Police say this (Friday) morning the Kennedy High School Resource Officer was told by students about a suspicious man in the south parking lot, a older white man in a white Buick the students said was approaching them.
The School Resource Officer went into the parking lot to speak with the individual who was in the driver’s seat of the Buick. Upon seeing the officer and the squad car, the suspect sped through the parking lot onto 42ndStreet NE.
The officer chased the suspect along 42ndStreet NE and then through several northeast side neighborhoods until a dead end in the 2200 block of Shady Oaks Court NE.
The suspect, identified as 63-year-old Douglas Frederick Kay was arrested for Eluding, Speeding, and two counts of Failure to Obey Traffic Control Device. He was transported to the Linn County Correctional Center.
