Census: Dallas County leads Iowa with 41% population gain

(Des Moines, IA) -- The 2020 U.S. Census results show Dallas County continues to lead the state with population gains. The report finds a 41-percent increase between 2010 and 2019. Dallas County's population has surpassed 93,000. Polk County, Iowa's largest, recorded a nearly 14-percent increase, with a population just over 490,000.

Johnson County recorded a 15-percent gain, with a population over 151,140.

Linn County population: 226,706, up 4.7%

Story County: 97,117, up 8.5%

Scott County: 172,943, up 4.7%

Pottawattamie County: 93,201, up 1%

Iowa's total population is 3,190,369, up 4.7% from the 2019 census. That ranks Iowa 30 in the nation in terms of population.

The state's population is projected to be 3,474,647 in 2050.

64.3% of Iowa's residents are in urban areas, compared to 35.7% in rural areas.
