(Ames, IA) -- Fire has destroyed an Ames mobile home. Crews were called to a mobile home park at 2616 Browning Street, near South Dayton Avenue at 3:10 p.m Saturday. Crews arrived to find heavy smoke and flames coming from the roof. The fire department says they were able to put out the fire quickly, but the home is a total loss. The resident escaped with minor injuries. The Red Cross is working to find alternative housing for the resident.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
The Ames Fire Department reminds residents to check their smoke detectors every month. This will ensure they are operating correctly and will provide early warning in case of a fire.
