(Des Moines, IA) -- Most calls that Animal Rescue League of Iowa crews get have to do with cats, dogs, and the occasional pet snake or large lizard that gets away from its owners, so a call about an alligator Sunday was quite unusual.
The caller reported a 4-to-5 foot gator resting in a Des Moines parking lot.
The A-R-L says while the fear was real, the alligator, it turns out, was not. The large stuffed alligator is now safe in the care of ARL Animal Services.
Stephanie Filer of the A-R-L says their crews did in fact once respond to a live alligator in a bathtub in a Des Moines home.
