Iowa Sen Ernst Reconfirms Support for Cheney Ahead of House GOP Vote

WASHINGTON, DC - Iowa Senator Joni Ernst is continuing to show support for Congresswoman Liz Cheney.

Forbes report Ernst appeared at a Senate GOP leadership news conference Tuesday, where she said "House business is House business," and that "if someone has something to say, they should feel OK to say it."

Last week, Ernst told Politico that Cheney has the right to stand her ground in opposition to former President Donald Trump.

Republicans in the U.S. House are voting Wednesday to strip Cheney of her leadership role because of her continued push back against Trump’s claim that the election was stolen from him.

Ernst told Politico that she appreciates Cheney, and said any elected official should stand their ground.

Tuesday, Ernst said the Republican party shouldn't be arguing about who said what, but should focus on unity, and making sure that Republicans are securing seats in 2022.

Ernst is the No. 5 leader in the Senate Republican conference and will seek to be No. 4 in the role of Republican Policy Committee chair when Missouri Senator Roy Blunt retires next year.

Cheney is the third ranking House Republican, but could be tossed out of her position by a vote of her colleagues as early as next week.

She took to the House floor Tuesday evening, where she vowed not to remain silent as former President Trump continues to say the election was stolen from him.

"I will not sit back and watch in silence while others lead our party down a path that abandons the rule of law and joins the former President's crusade to undermine our democracy," said Cheney.
