(Des Moines, Iowa) -- The Iowa Legislature is one step closer to sending an amendment to Iowa's constitution denying the right to abortion to Iowa voters.
The proposal would amend the state constitution to no longer grant, secure, or protect the right to abortion. It would also not require public funding for abortions.
As an amendment to the Iowa constitution, the proposal would have to pass in two consecutive general assemblies before being on the ballot for Iowa voters, meaning it will be at least 2024 before Iowans could vote on the issue.
