DAVENPORT, Iowa - The trial of Cristhian Bahena Riverais set begin Wednesday at 8:30 a.m. under a national spotlight.

Twelve jurors and three alternatives were seated Tuesday, including eight women and seven men.

The jurors are all white, except for one Hispanic.

Bahena Rivera is accused of killing University of Iowa student Mollie Tibbetts in 2018.

The trial was cleared for broadcast and is being carried live on numerous TV outlets, both nationally and locally in Iowa.

The final jurors were selected from an original pool of at least 175 potentials.

KWQC reports the jurors were asked to give their thoughts on Rivera’s immigration status, including whether it would affect their judgment in giving him a fair trial.

They were also asked about policing, such as their thoughts on cutting corners in an investigation and whether or not it is important for police to check every lead.

In addition, they were asked individual questions about their own lives and moral perspectives.

The trial is set last into the next week.

Jurors have been warned that the trial will include graphic evidence, such as photographs and testimony about the injuries to Tibbetts.

She went jogging on July 18th, 2018 near her boyfriend's home in Brooklyn, Iowa.Prosecutors say Bahena Rivera followed her and killed her after she threatened to call police.

Tibbetts was found one month later, after police say Bahena Rivera led them to her body in a cornfield outside of Brooklyn.

The trial was moved to Scott County in an attempt to provide a more diverse jury and avoid bias toward Tibbetts.
