DAVENPORT, Iowa - The trial of the man accused of killing University of Iowa student Mollie Tibbetts in 2018 moves into day four Monday.
Thus far, Cristhian Bahena Rivera’s first-degree murder trial has included testimony from police who say he confessed to the killing, and experts who say Tibbetts’ DNA was found in the trunk of his car.
The prosecution is expected to resume its case against Rivera Monday morning at the Scott County Courthouse in Davenport.
Tibbetts went missing in July 2018 while on a run in Brooklyn, Iowa. Her body was found a month later in a rural cornfield.
Bahena Rivera’s trial has been delayed five times, including over COVID-19 concerns, and was moved to Scott County in an attempt to provide a more diverse jury and avoid bias toward Tibbetts.
It's being carried live on numerous TV outlets, both nationally and locally in Iowa.
