Iowa Experiencing Large Increase in Fraudulent Unemployment Claims

IOWA - Iowa has experienced a large increase in fraudulent unemployment claims since the pandemic began.

The Capital Dispatch reports there have been thirty-seven thousand fraudulent claims, and the Des Moines Register reports the state has paid almost thirty million dollars in fraudulent claims.

The problem is nationwide and has hit more populous states even harder.

Both California and New York have reported being hit with one-billion dollars in fraudulent jobless claims during the pandemic.

Iowa Workforce Development encourages residents to report fraudulent claims and has an online form people can fill out to make a report.
