(Van Meter, IA) -- Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds is calling on Iowans this Memorial Day to honor and remember those who have served in the U-S military and those who have paid the ultimate price in defending the United States.
"Today we pause once again to offer our enduring gratitude for the unimaginable valor of those who answered the call, who did not shrink from duty or flee from danger. As we remember the legacy of our of fallen heroes we should remember behind every name etched in granite was a unique person, perhaps a young man with a wife and children, a beloved mother, father, son, or daughter, an ordinary person who performed extraordinary deeds," said Reynolds.
"To our men and women serving our country and those who love them, we pray for your strength, safety, and well-being. To the Veterans who carry the seen and unseen scars of battle, and continue to uphold the legacies of your comrades, we offer our unending support and gratitude, and to our Gold Star families, of those who laid down their lives in defense of this country, ours is truly a grateful state and country that will never forget."
She made the comments during the annual Memorial Day ceremony this (Monday) morning at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Van Meter, where 5,000 U-S Veterans are interred.
