(Johnston, IA) -- Police in Johnston are on the lookout all summer to give young bicyclers tickets...for ice cream. Kids practicing safe habits while riding their bicycles may get a ticket for ice cream at Van Dee's Ice Cream Shoppe. They will also automatically be entered in a raffle to win a new bicycle. Johnston PD says the Busted in a Good Way program allows police to interact with kids in a positive way and help them learn safe riding habits in public. This is the fifth year the Johnston Police Department has partnered with Van Dee's Ice Cream Shoppe. Kids could get an ice cream ticket for practicing good habits like wearing a helmet, looking both ways before crossing the street, and using hand signals when turning. The program ends September 1st, 2021.
