(Des Moines, IA) -- Showers and thunderstorms are moving through Iowa today (Friday).

The welcome rain is not expected to reverse the dry conditions though. Meteorologist Christie Carter of the National Weather Service in Des Moines says some parts of Iowa could receive between .25 and .50 inch of rain. She says as the storms progress toward eastern Iowa, however, rainfall chances taper off.

Carter says severe weather is not expected, beyond winds up to 30 mph and lightening.
