OMAHA, Nebraska -- Record breaking heat is bubbling up in Omaha today.

The National Weather Service says temperatures will rise into the low 100s by this afternoon.

They say it's important to avoid doing a lot of activity outside and to drink plenty of water.

It's going to stay warm like this through the weekend, but storms early next week usher in cooler temperatures Monday and Tuesday.

It'll be in the high 70s early next week with chances for some 'much-needed' rain.

There isn't much of a chance for severe weather today.

The National Weather Service downgraded a risk for severe weather including hail, gusty winds and even a tornado or two early this morning.

That weather system is moving across Iowa where a risk for severe storms was upgraded to an enhanced risk from Cedar Rapids to the northeast corner of the state.
