(Cedar Rapids, Iowa) -- The new Citizen Review Board in Cedar Rapids is taking shape.
During a meeting on Tuesday, the Cedar Rapids City Council selected 9 members to serve on the Review Board, which will focus on police training, reviewing police data to find areas of improvement, and creating a long-term plan for better community policing. The group takes shape about a year after demands from the Black Lives Matter and Advocates for Social Justice organizations to improve policing and police accountability.
The Cedar Rapids City Council selected 9 members out of 71 applicants. The Review Board will consist of five men and four women, with seven of the nine members identifying as people of color.
