Bruno the bear that wandered thru Iowa dead in Louisiana

(Undated) -- A black bear nicknamed Bruno that wandered thru Iowa, Wisconsin, and Missouri last year, and became a social media star, is dead.

Louisiana Fish and Wildlife officials say the bear was euthanized this week because it had been badly injured by a vehicle. The bear's legs and spine were broken and was euthanized this week.

Bruno caught attention last year in the Midwest and was captured in Missouri near Interstate-70 and was relocated to Louisiana.

Louisiana Fish and Wildlife says they were contacted by a homeowner in Morehouse Parish Tuesday who said there was a black bear on their property that would not leave. Wildlife officials determined the bear was badly injured after being hit by a vehicle weeks ago.

“If there is any way possible a bear can survive an injury, we assist by relocating the animal to a secluded area to give it a chance at survival’’ said LDWF Large Carnivore Program Manager Maria Davidson. “Unfortunately, this bear had injuries that would not have been survivable and the decision was made to humanely put it down.’’

Bruno weighed about 240 pounds.
