(Waukee, IA) -- Fast-growing Waukee has broken another record for new construction. Waukee had it's biggest year ever for single family homes, with nearly 600-permits. Waukee's total taxable valuation was more than $312 million, up by nearly $100 million from the previous year.

Waukee issued a record 1,719 building permits from July 1, 2020 through June 30, 2021. (1,531 permits were issued in 2020 for a $214 taxable valuation)

593 single-family homes

252 townhomes

3 multi-family developments

20 commercial developments

Remaining permits are in the "other" category including additions, decks, and fences.

“That impressive single-family permit growth is a reflection of not only a nationwide trend, but also Waukee’s focus on high quality of life,” said Waukee Mayor Courtney Clarke. “The Waukee Community School District is expanding, which is a catalyst for residential development in a top-performing school district. We are also seeing a lot of residential construction near both the future Triumph Park and Waukee’s Kettlestone Development, which are areas with new recreational and entertainment amenities in the works.”

In June 2021, developer Harry Coin announced plans for the 40-acre KeeTown Loop entertainment district is planned for fall 2021. This project, located in the Kettlestone Development, will have a live entertainment venue, two hotels, multi-family housing and more.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, Waukee’s estimated population is now 26,166, following 8.42 percent residential growth from 2019-2020.
