(Iowa) -- A national financial website says Iowa's unemployment recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic is strong.
An updated weekly study from WalletHub says this week, Iowa has the sixth best unemployment recovery in the nation. Jill Gonzalez with WalletHub says the study is updated weekly as new unemployment data become available. This week, the only Midwest state with a better unemployment recovery than Iowa is Kansas, with the nation's third best recovery.
According to WalletHub, unemployment claims are down about 20% compared to this week two years ago, and down over 80% from this week last year. Unemployment claims in Iowa since the start of 2020 are down over 53%.
Iowa ranks 20th in the nation for overall unemployment recovery from the pandemic, but WalletHub's Jill Gonzalez says she expects that ranking to keep getting better, as data show a steady and continuing unemployment recovery in Iowa.
