(West Des Moines, IA) -- Hy-Vee plans to offer COVID-19 vaccination clinics at the Iowa State Fair next month. Flu vaccines will also be offered pending availability.

The vaccination clinics will be held daily from 10 a.m.-6 p.m., Friday, Aug. 12 through Sunday, Aug. 22 at a booth located between the Grand Avenue gate and the Elwell Family Food Center on the west side of the Fairgrounds. No appointment is necessary but each vaccine recipient must stay in the observation area for 15 minutes after they receive their vaccine.

Hy-Vee will offer the Janssen (Johnson & Johnson) vaccine or Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine. Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine is available to individuals 12 years of age and older. Janssen vaccines are available for individuals 18 years of age and older, and require a single-dose injection. The Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine requires two doses that should be administered at least 21 days apart. Minors must have parental/guardian consent to receive the vaccine. Individuals who receive their first dose at the Iowa State Fair can receive their second dose at any Hy-Vee Pharmacy location.

It is recommended (but not required) that vaccine recipients bring the following to their vaccination: insurance card (if they have insurance) and Medicare Part B red, white and blue card (if Medicare recipient); and photo ID. Masks are required. If individuals do not have insurance, they can still be vaccinated.

Individuals who complete their COVID-19 vaccination with Hy-Vee between June 1 and November 1, 2021, can receive a $10 Hy-Vee gift card. Each patient who receives a flu vaccine at a Hy-Vee Pharmacy can earn a 20-cent Hy-Vee Fuel Saver reward, which can be redeemed at any Hy-Vee Gas, Hy-Vee Fast and Fresh Express, or Hy-Vee Fast and Fresh location.
