Urbandale Native Karissa Schweitzer Places 11th at Tokyo Olympics

(Tokyo) -- Karissa Schweitzer from Urbandale has placed 11th out of 15 in the 5,000 meters final at the Tokyo Olympics Monday morning. Drake University Relays Director Blake Boldon says the U.S. team ran an accordion style pace. He says today wasn't Schweitzer's fastest race but teammate Elise Cranny ran one of her season's best. He says both runners did really well. Schweitzer has another chance to win a medal in the 10,000 meter race Saturday. Sifan Hassan from the Netherlands won the gold. Kenya got silver and Ethiopia got the bronze.
