Des Moines Police: Apartment Resident Shoots Armed Intruder

(Des Moines, Iowa) -- Des Moines Police say an intruder is injured after trying to break into a Des Moines area apartment.

Police say around 12:30 Friday morning, an intruder armed with a handgun broke into an apartment in the 2500 block of Lincoln Avenue and threatened the resident.

Des Moines Police Sergeant Paul Parizek tells WHO 13 the resident then used his own gun to shoot the intruder, who immediately fled the scene and later showed up at a local emergency room with a non life-threatening injury. Police have not released the names of anyone involved, and an investigation is ongoing.
