(Coralville, IA) -- Iowans can get free at-home COVID-19 test kits from the state.

People can either order one online or pick them up from county health departments and other select locations.

These kits use saliva samples, which can then be mailed into the State Hygienic Laboratory.

"We have a lot of people coming in and getting [the tests]," says Heather Meador, Linn County Public Health Clinical Branch Supervisor. "So we are ordering more all the time from the State Hygienic Lab."

Meador says results can come back within 24 hours after the lab gets the sample.
