First City to Defy Iowa's COVID Face Mask Ban

(Iowa City, IA) -- Iowa City Mayor Bruce Teague issues a face mask mandate for the city, but Governor Kim Reynolds says it isn't enforceable. Teague issued the mandate Thursday evening and it went into effect at midnight. A spokesperson for Governor Reynolds has released a statement calling the mandate against the law. Iowa lawmakers passed a law earlier this year prohibiting mask mandates in the state. Teague says there won't be a penalty if the mandate is broken.
