(Des Moines, IA) -- The Des Moines City Council approves the designation of the "Snookies Neon Sign" as a local landmark.

Des Moines City Council Member Bill Gray stated, "Once a pole sign comes down, it cannot be erected again. In designating this as a local landmark, they can replace it. [...] They can continue the use of that sign as a local landmark." Monday's city council meeting was livestreamed.

On October 18th last year, a drowsy driver hit the Snookies Malt Shop's neon sign, knocking the sign over.

Monday afternoon, the city council has opened the path for "Snookies Neon Sign" to stand again, now as a local landmark.
