Two in custody after crashing into police car in Council Bluffs

(Council Bluffs, IA) -- Two suspects wanted for parole violations are back in jail and facing new charges - after crashing into a police car while trying to get away. The Iowa Department of Corrections says when Kelsey Hanna and Brandon Hines were spotted in Council Bluffs Friday, Hines backed his car into the officer's car, then hit another car as he drove away. Correctional Officer Mike Brown shot at Hines, and hit him, but Hines kept going. He was later arrested in Nebraska by the State Patrol. Hines was treated at the hospital and taken into custody by Nebraska authorities. He will be extradited to Iowa to face the following criminal charges in Iowa.

  • Assault on a Police Officer with a dangerous weapon (Class D Felony)
  • Assault on a Police Officer while attempting to inflict serious injury (Class D Felony)
  • Theft 2nd Degree (Class D Felony)

Officer Brown is recovering from his injuries at home and is on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of an investigation.
