(Cedar Rapids, IA) -- A Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Team with the Cedar Rapids School District has recommended School Resource Officers be removed from middle schools.

Data from the district has shown that black students were having disproportionate interaction with school-based police officers compared to other students.

The diversity team also recommended the option of parents being present when an SRO is questioning a kid about a possible crime.

The board did not adopt the recommendations on Monday; however the topic is not off the table.
