(Ames, IA) -- Ames Police are releasing the name of a woman killed August 19th. Police say 32-year-old Maria Hanian of Des Moines was found shot to death in an apartment in the 58-hundred block of Mortenson Road. Twenty-six-year-old Oscar Chavez is charged with First Degree Murder and is in the Story County Jail.
Chavez was stopped by Sac County Sheriff’s deputies near Auburn, Iowa at 11:55 p.m. on August 19, 2021. Chavez was taken into custody and charged with Murder in the 1st Degree, a class “A” felony.
