(Linn County, IA) -- There are new details about an eastern Iowa chase this week, that ended in deadly crash. The Linn County Sheriff's Office says 35-year-old Leo Ray and 35-year-old Stacy Watts, both of Cedar Rapids, died in a crash with a dump truck early Wednesday morning.

The Linn County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a domestic disturbance in the area of 80th St and Hwy 100 involving a blue Nissan Altima containing a male driver and female passenger trying to jump out of a vehicle.

A Linn County Sheriff’s Deputy arrived in the area at approximately 1223 hours and saw the suspect vehicle speeding south on 80th St, north of E Ave with the female still in the vehicle. The Deputy activated emergency lights, but the driver failed to stop and a pursuit was initiated.

The Deputy chased the vehicle south on 80th St to E Cemetery Rd in Fairfax, but ended the chase near the intersection of Hwy 151 and Wright Brothers Blvd.

The Sheriff's Office says one minute later, the Deputy saw a large amount of debris flying in the air from what appeared to be a collision. The driver of the Nissan Altima had driven into the oncoming lane of traffic, lost control, and hit a northbound Kenworth dump truck nearly head-on near 300 Hwy 151 in Walford, blocking both lanes of traffic.

Both occupants of the passenger car were ejected from the vehicle and were pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the dump truck was uninjured.
