(Omaha, NE) -- There is a staffing problem in Nebraska prisons according to a report released by the Office of the Inspector General.

Nebraska Department of Corrections employees told lawmakers they are overworked, feel unsafe, and are having mental and emotional breakdowns.

They also expressed concerns towards inmates and the lack of services, programs, and classes available to them.

Inmates are locked in cells for hours in a day and workers say they are worried inmates will hurt themselves.

They say a new prison will not solve the problem and that the problem lies with staffing and lack of funding.
