(Detroit, MI) -- Training camp opens in a few days for the Detroit Pistons, but their roster has already been bolstered by a contract promotion.
On Friday, the Detroit Pistons signed Luka Garza to a new two-year deal. Garza signed a two-way contract earlier this year, but his new two-year deal guarantees the Hawkeye national player of the year a spot on the Pistons roster. With his deal converted to a standard NBA contract, Garza takes the Pistons' 15th and final roster spot.
In the Summer League, Garza averaged 15.0 points, 9.6 rebounds, 1.8 assists, and 1.0 block on 21.2 minutes. For his efficient play, Garza was named to the All-Summer League Second team, shooting 52% from the field and 40% from 3.
Question marks remain regarding Garza's mobility and ability to play defense, but earning the Pistons' final roster spot bodes well for the 52nd overall pick.
