(West Des Moines, IA) -- People around West Des Moines have been seeing pipes and wires sticking up out of the ground over the last few months.

This is part of a $40-million project the city has with Google to get people faster, more reliable internet. City engineers say this was one of the main requests on resident surveys last year.

City leaders are asking people not to mess with the pipes and wires, as it could slow down progress. They say it'll be 2-4 weeks until the pipes and wires are buried and it'll be about two years before the new fiber lines are ready to use.
