(Omaha, NE) -- An American flag was found burned in front of a U.S. veteran's home. When Chaplain Tom Meradith left his home Sunday morning, an American flag and a U.S. Navy flag flew in his front yard.

When Meradith returned, the American flag was still flying, but was found tattered and burned. The U.S. Navy flag was almost completely destroyed, found on the ground, down to a few remnants. The flagpole was charred as well.

Meradith tells WOWT 6 News he plans on replacing both flags, but feels defiled from the acts of the vandals.

Tom Meradith served in the U.S. Navy in Vietnam in the 1960s as a gunners mate on a U.S. destroyer.
