(Newton, IA) -- The largest employer in Jasper County is letting over 700 employees go.
On Monday, it was confirmed that TPI Composites, Inc. will end wind blade production at the facility on December 31st. General Electric had been TPI’s main customer but GE hadn’t ordered any wind blades for 2022. In 2017, GE bought Denmark-based LM Wind Power, one of TPI’s rivals, meaning GE can get most of its blades from LM.
TPI says only a handful of employees will be retained at the Newton facility, and that 710 workers will be let go.
