(Des Moines, Iowa) -- A homeless man is in custody after police say he assaulted a 9 year-old girl in Downtown Des Moines.
34 year-old Carter Woodruff is charged with assault, and Des Moines Police say more charges could be added. A criminal complaint in the case says the victim was attending a swimming event at the Downtown YMCA on Saturday when Woodruff grabbed her by the arm, pulled her to the ground, covered her mouth with his hand.
Investigators say security camera footage and a photo taken by the victim's grandmother identified Woodruff as the suspect in the assault.
