(Omaha, NE) -- A Nebraska State Bandmasters Grand Championship is on the way to the Omaha metro.
The Papillion-La Vista South High School marching band was one of the Class AA schools competing at the Nebraska State Bandmasters state finals on Saturday.
For the first time in school history, Papio South's marching band won not only the AA championship, but were named Grand Champions.
Drum Major Red Wilhelm told WOWT 6 News: ”I think this experience is about making connections with other people. Sports, you can have a team and then you lose them when you go off to college or get a new team but with this, you’re always a family the rest of your life.”
The Papio South marching band also took home Best General Effect and Best Visual awards.
