(Omaha, NE) -- An Omaha man was arrested on Monday after fleeing police from a hospital and stealing a car. Police say 28-year-old Vernon Williams was taken into custody after a theft investigation.

Then, Williams began to complain of chest pains. After being admitted to the Nebraska Medical Center to be medically cleared, Williams ran out of the hospital on foot, got into an occupied vehicle, and commanded the woman behind the wheel to drive.

Police say the woman ran out of the vehicle, as Williams hopped in the driver's seat to drive away.

Williams proceeded to hit an unoccupied police cruiser. He was later apprehended by a Council Bluffs police officer after a foot chase.

Police say Williams will be booked into the Pottawattamie County Jail.
