(Cedar Rapids, IA) -- Nine people in Cedar Rapids are being trained how the police department works to be on the Citizens Review Board.
The board members will be try to improve police practices and hold officers accountable.
"Just starting off, [we're] really just making sure that we know each other, that we can have a good conversation, that we're partnering in this and that its not just one side against the other," says board chair Star Smith. "We're all working in this together."
Smith says she has been on ride-alongs with officers to see how they work first-hand.
